This session encourages an open dialogue on Africa’s space ambitions by welcoming diverse perspectives on the topic. It provides a platform for participants to discuss the social and ethical considerations, strategic interests, and other key issues surrounding space activities on the continent. Featuring young Africans from space societies in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and Benin, the session will provide an engaging and lively discussion of Africa's space programs.
Our participating space societies include the following;
Blue Crane Space
Blue Crane space is a student led, STEM-focused society at the University of Pretoria.The society is focused on STEM-related Research and Development (R&D) for the society - the Engineering department leads R&D in rocketry and the Astronomy and Astrophysics Department leads R&D in Near-Earth Object discovery and observational astronomy.
Students for the Exploration of Space, Zimbabwe (SEDS)
The Students for the Exploration and Development of Space Zimbabwe is a non-profit student organization that aims to promote and foster the role of human exploration and development of space in Zimbabwe.
Space Club, Federal University of Technology, Akure
Space Club FUTA is a vibrant community of space enthusiasts committed to building the next generation of space leaders in Africa. Over the years, Space Club FUTA has organised spaceorentation otreaches to several seconday schools in Ondo State, trained undergraduates FUTA in relevant space related technologies, and organised workshops to teach and raise awareness of the importance of space sciene ad technology in our world today.
Space Club, University of Nigeria, Nsukka
Space Club, UNN SA is a community of students across disciplines in the University of Nigeria Nsukka interested in space and space related activities. Its vision is to groom Nigeria's next Space professionals. They promote space education activities at UNN through such activities as webinars, conventions, competitions, simulated court sittings on space related matters, lectures, quizzes amongst others.
Sirius Astro-Club, Abomey-Calavi, Benin
Sirius Astro-Club is a Beninese association of young scientists, a pioneer in space science and astronomy in Benin. It aims to inspire and train young people in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and space science. The association organizes activities and events to promote these fields in order to contribute to the technological development of the country. It has achieved important accomplishments in education, training, and scientific research at the national and international levels.
Space Club, Obafemi Awolowo University
Space Club OAU focuses on equipping undergraduate students with the knowledge of space and exposing them to opportunities in the space sector. They keep members updated about space related events and organize local events within the university. As part of their activities, they also organize fun activities centered around space education that are appealing to our student audience such as movie and game nights.
Space Club Lagos State University
Space Club LASU aims to promote interest, education, and engagement in space exploration, astronomy, and related fields for its members who are students of Lagos State University in Nigeria.
